What Precedent is

Overview

Precedent is a legal platform with artificial intelligence for law firms and notary offices in Mexico. It brings together, in one place, your expedientes (case files) with their documents, the calendar, the tasks, and an assistant that works with that information and with official legal sources.

You use it in the browser, at app.precedent.cc, with the account your firm created for you. You do not need a separate account to read this Help Center.

Who it is for

When the organization is created, it is set up as a law firm (despacho) or a notary office (notaría). Precedent adapts texts, legal acts, modules and the assistant to the organization type: a notary office sees, for example, Deeds and Certifications; a law firm sees Court bulletin.

How it is organized

The sidebar has two modes:

• Home: the assistant. Start a new chat, ask about a case file or request a research report.
• Manage: the firm's work. Case files, Tasks and Calendar are always visible; the other modules (Clients, Documents, Quotations, Blacklists, Monitoring, and so on) live under More, and you can pin up to five of them under Pinned.

The case file is the centre of everything: each matter with its documents, chats and reviews in one place. Whatever you upload to a case file becomes available to the assistant, the comparisons and the tasks of that matter.

The assistant and artificial intelligence

The assistant answers using the documents in your case files and, when you ask, researches public legal sources and cites where each piece of information came from. Under every chat you will always see this notice:

Precedent uses generative AI and can make mistakes. Please double-check responses.

Take it seriously: check every citation against the official source before using it in a filing. You can rate each answer with Good response or Bad response; that helps improve the product.

Language and dark mode

Open the account menu (the ⋯ button at the bottom of the sidebar):

• Language: Español (México) or English (United States). The change applies to the whole interface and follows you on every device.
• Dark mode: switches between the light and dark themes.
